CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson has released his early 2026 NFL mock draft, a list he describes more as a college football watchlist than a firm prediction of next year’s selections. While Wilson typically publishes his mock drafts immediately after the current year’s draft, he took a more deliberate approach this offseason to better familiarize himself with next year’s potential top prospects.
“So, sure, consider this a watchlist if you like,” Wilson wrote. “Or, if you prefer, it can be a mock draft. Ultimately, it’s 33 names to know some two-and-a-half months out from the return of college football.”
Using projected Super Bowl odds to determine draft order, Wilson has the San Francisco 49ers picking at No. 22 overall. With that selection, he sees the team bolstering its secondary by drafting Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy.
“Physical corner who can play man on an island and is also comfortable in zone looks,” Wilson explained. “Consistently good at staying in phase on vertical routes, and in run support he comes downhill with purpose looking to thump someone. Might be the best CB in the class vs. go routes.”
Pro Football Focus recently projected Deommodore Lenoir, Renardo Green, and Tre Brown as the 49ers’ top three cornerbacks heading into the 2025 season. Using a top draft pick to add a talented rookie to that group next year seems plausible.
Still, the 49ers’ offensive line remains a long-term concern. After not fully addressing the unit during the 2025 NFL Draft, its performance this season could ultimately make offensive line upgrades a priority next year.
McCoy (6-0, 193) transferred to Tennessee after a stint at Oregon State, making an immediate impact in 2024. He finished the season with 44 tackles, four interceptions, nine passes defensed, and a tackle for loss across 13 games, per Sports Reference. As college football returns, McCoy could be a name to watch closely.
