KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

Several families who were injured in the mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl rally in 2024 have filed a lawsuit accusing gun sellers, event organizers, and the city of negligence.

The petition, filed June 2 in Jackson County Circuit Court, alleges that the February 14, 2024 shooting, which killed local radio DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan and wounded 22 others, including 11 children, was “foreseeable and entirely preventable.”

The suit names multiple defendants, including gun sellers Frontier Justice and The Ammo Box, gun show organizer R.K. Shows, Union Station Kansas City Inc., the City of Kansas City, the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission, and those accused of taking part in the shooting.

The plaintiffs are each suing on behalf of themselves and their children.

The lawsuit argues that lax security, reckless gun sales, and a failure to plan for public safety caused or contributed to the violence.

At least 12 people brought guns into the celebration zone and six opened fire during a confrontation near Union Station, court documents in 2024 said.

The plaintiffs allege that gun dealers negligently sold high-powered firearms to straw purchasers, including weapons ultimately used by the shooters.

The lawsuit also faults event planners and the city for failing to implement basic security protocols.
