To celebrate Latino Heritage Month and recognize the rich cultural contributions of Latino communities throughout the Pacific Northwest, the Seahawks are spotlighting\u00a0local artist Angelina Villalobos, who designed the artwork featured in the Latino Heritage Collection.\u00a0The collection\u00a0celebrates\u00a0Latino heritage, Seahawks culture, and the communities that bring them together.<\/p>\n
The design\u00a0reimagines the Mexican flag\u00a0through a Pacific Northwest lens. The artwork features a Seahawks-inspired osprey, a cherry tree,\u00a0a\u00a0salmon,\u00a0and an array of stylized flowers\u00a0through vibrant colors.<\/p>\n
“As an artist,\u00a0I’ve\u00a0always told my story through color.\u00a0It’s\u00a0how a shy kid from Beacon Hill learned to take up space,”\u00a0Villalobos\u00a0said. “Campeones del Sol\u00a0is a reflection of\u00a0who I am: a Mexican American Seattleite whose family stretches from San Antonio to Guerrero to right here at home. I want people to see that you can be\u00a0all of\u00a0those things at once: immigrant, migrant, first-gen, and a proud Seahawks fan and wear that pride without apology. When we all root for the same team, we all root for the same dream.”<\/p>\n
Villalobos said she drew inspiration from a\u00a0recent\u00a0trip to Mexico City, which inspired her to\u00a0honor Mexican history.<\/p>\n
“With that at the forefront of my brain, I wanted to create a design that honored that history, but also was contemporary and new because\u00a0that’s\u00a0who I am. A few of the details you might not completely pick up when you first look at the design\u00a0is\u00a0the bitter-cherry branch, the flowers, but also the colors. I was very intentional with the colors. The blue and\u00a0green for the\u00a0Seahawks, right? Because\u00a0it’s\u00a0the Mexican flag there are red,\u00a0green\u00a0and white for who I am, but there are also red,\u00a0white\u00a0and blue because that is also who I am.”<\/p>\n
The medallion featured in the design, titled\u00a0Campeones del Sol\u00a0means Champions of the Sun and is based on Aztec\u00a0gods.<\/p>\n
A\u00a0component\u00a0of the design, and the main design featured on the jacket and hat of the collection is called the “God of Football”\u00a0which is a\u00a0football player illustrated in a style inspired by Indigenous Mexican imagery.\u00a0This blended\u00a0Indigenous symbolism, football culture, and bold graphic storytelling.\u00a0Inspired by pride, resilience, and connection, this collection honors the cultures and communities that help shape the Pacific Northwest and the 12s.<\/p>\n
The collection\u00a0features a hat, tee,\u00a0hoodie\u00a0and\u00a0jacket that\u00a0will be available exclusively in-store at The Pro Shop store locations at Lumen Field and The Landing\u00a0in Renton\u00a0starting September 15th.<\/p>\n
