FRISCO – We can debate whether or not the Dallas Cowboys trade of Mike McCarthy for Brian Schottenheimer was prudent. We’ll begin to settle that debate in about three months when they kick off the season at the Philadelphia Eagles.<\/p>\n

But as player moves, even most Cowboys critics agree that Jerry Jones had a successful\u00a0 offseason.<\/p>\n

Needing to fill the hole left by future Hall-of-Fame offensive lineman Zack Martin’s retirement, they drafted Alabama’s Tyler Booker. Given the departures of Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott, they were desperate for a running back(s) and added Jayden Blue (in the draft) and veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders (in free agency). Desperate for a No. 2 receiver to put opposite All-Pro CeeDee Lamb, they pulled a bold trade for former Pittsburgh Steelers’ star George Pickens.<\/p>\n

Check, check and more checks.<\/p>\n

Because of the lack of confidence, Pro Football Focus gave the Cowboys a C+ grade for their offseason. Sports Illustrated, meanwhile, gave them an A for the bold deal to acquire Pickens.<\/p>\n

Offseason evaluations are subjective. But some are just plain stupid.<\/p>\n

During an episode of the Dudes on Dudes podcast with former New England Patriots’ teammate Julian Edelman, future Hall-of-Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski took his hyperbole to a hysterical level.<\/p>\n

When a caller predicted that\u00a0Pickens would help the Cowboys finally win a Super Bowl this season, Gronkowski barked in disapproval.<\/p>\n

“This guy has definitely drank too many Coors Lights,” Gronk said. “I mean, he’s out of mind … probably 25 beers deep. Gotta be. George Pickens?\u00a0I mean there\u2019s so many other things that the Cowboys had to address, They had one of the worst offseasons of all time.”<\/p>\n

Despite the moves to acquire new faces, Edelman chimed in that the Cowboys still had a glaring hole at running back.<\/p>\n

“Let’s pump the brakes on the Super Bowl,” Edelman said.<\/p>\n

There’s no denying the former Patriots knew how to win championships on the field. But as for evaluating Cowboys offseasons? Not so much.<\/p>\n

For starters, Cowboys fans remember the 2024 offseason and their glaring lack of moves. Relatively speaking, this Spring was a home run.<\/p>\n
