A Familiar Stretch With Higher Stakes<\/p>\n

Last season, the Buccaneers stumbled through a three\u2011game stretch against teams that were statistically worse than they were. The Cardinals, the Saints, and the Falcons. Three games, one win. That late\u2011November and early\u2011December slide fueled a disastrous 2\u20117 finish and ultimately kept Tampa Bay out of the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Now, the Buccaneers get a do\u2011over.<\/p>\n

Starting Sunday, Tampa Bay faces three consecutive opponents that, on paper, are very beatable: the Cleveland Browns on September 20, the Minnesota Vikings on September 27, and the Green Bay Packers on October 4. If the Bucs go 1\u20112 over those three games, this season could start spiraling out of control, just as some prognosticators predicted before Week 1.<\/p>\n

After fumbling away the season opener against Cincinnati, Tampa Bay has to take care of business against a struggling Cleveland team. Then they need to find a way to win the next two.<\/p>\n

Momentum Matters More Than Margin<\/p>\n

This stretch isn\u2019t just about the record. It\u2019s about momentum.<\/p>\n

Some fans insist the Buccaneers need to beat the Browns convincingly. I\u2019m not necessarily buying that. What Tampa Bay needs right now is a confidence boost, and that doesn\u2019t require a 30\u2011point victory. It requires a clean football game.<\/p>\n

Take care of the football. Avoid the unnecessary penalties. Execute in the red zone. Make the routine plays. Don\u2019t give the Browns extra opportunities. Turnovers are contagious, and they tend to come in bunches. We saw that in Cincinnati.<\/p>\n

If the Bucs win by one point or four points but don\u2019t turn the ball over, that\u2019s a step in the right direction. A win is a win.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to call a game a must\u2011win in September, but for a team that desperately needs to build positive momentum\u2014and needs to do it in front of its home fans\u2014this one certainly feels like one.<\/p>\n

Bowles Faces the Noise<\/p>\n

Many fans have already started blaming Todd Bowles for the Bengals loss. If the Bucs give up an opening score to the Browns or allow Cleveland to hang around into the fourth quarter, those same fans are going to let Bowles hear about it. Loudly.<\/p>\n

At this point, Bowles probably can\u2019t win over the fans who have already decided he should be fired. But he can convince those who are still willing to give him a chance that this year really can be different.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s why Sunday matters.<\/p>\n

Yes, Sunday is a must\u2011win. Not because the season ends with a loss, but because the Buccaneers desperately need to start building something before another season slips away.<\/p>\n
