{"id":1004208,"date":"2026-09-18T14:36:19","date_gmt":"2026-09-18T14:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/1004208\/"},"modified":"2026-09-18T14:36:19","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T14:36:19","slug":"kyler-murrays-status-for-vikings-vs-bears-updated-in-new-nfl-rumors-amid-injury-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/1004208\/","title":{"rendered":"Kyler Murray&#8217;s Status for Vikings vs. Bears Updated in New NFL Rumors amid Injury Recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">There is reportedly a chance Kyler Murray could play Sunday against the Chicago Bears despite suffering an injury in the season opener against the Green Bay Packers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">ESPN&#8217;s <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong mui-mlpnpn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DanGrazianoESPN\/status\/2100915325298409606\">Dan Graziano<\/a> reported Friday the Minnesota Vikings quarterback is progressing through concussion protocol and &#8220;did more in practice Thursday than Wednesday.&#8221; If and when he is cleared, the Vikings will then have to choose between starting him or sticking with Carson Wentz for at least one more game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">Murray, who was limited to just five games last season for the Arizona Cardinals, was one of Minnesota&#8217;s key additions this offseason and won the starting job over J.J. McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">However, he threw just five passes against the Packers before suffering the head injury in the first quarter. Wentz, who was named the backup quarterback over McCarthy, was thrust into action and directed an impressive comeback.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">Despite trailing 22-10 in the third quarter, the Vikings ended up defeating Green Bay 39-22.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">Wentz completed 12 of his 19 passes for 133 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions while the Minnesota defense held the Packers to just three points after halftime.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">&#8220;That&#8217;s why he&#8217;s here,&#8221; Vikings head coach Kevin O&#8217;Connell <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong mui-mlpnpn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/recap\/_\/gameId\/401872927\">told reporters<\/a> when discussing Wentz. &#8220;For him to come in and do what he did and just be part of that calming presence that allowed our team to continue playing, I can&#8217;t say enough about him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">Having an experienced option like Wentz who played well in the season opener gives the Vikings a solid insurance policy should Murray not be ready to face the Bears.
