Wentz gets the nod with JJ stepping into the backup role. He had better be ready because every time Wentz goes down, well, it seems like it takes a long time for him to get up. The Panthers 3 turnovers surely did not help them out and they lost the time of possession, 34 minutes to 25 minutes. Despite recent speculation that O’Connell opposed drafting McCarthy with a trade up to No. 10, multiple sources said he supported it alongside a development plan that included credible veteran options in 2024 (Darnold) and perhaps beyond. They thought McCarthy, because of his age and perceived room for growth, could eventually be a difference-maker.
…
Meanwhile, multiple sources said the Vikings were surprised by the degree of McCarthy’s immaturity. It’s possible that Chad Graff did, considering he’s the only one riding Minnesota this week. This is a real heat-check of a pick. It means that the Vikes would beat the Bears with a recently concussed Kyler Murray (who threw an unforgivable pick last week) under center — or Wentz stringing together two improbable starts.

Chicago’s defense is a mess, but believing Wentz can repeat that level of aptitude is a choice. Perhaps this is a vote of confidence in Brian Flores, whose truly psychotic blitz rate — on 78.3 percent of pass plays, per Next Gen Stats — won the day for Minnesota last week. And while Packers quarterback Jordan Love did an admirable job counterpunching, when a QB is pressured on 50 percent of his dropbacks, it’s only a matter of time before things come apart.

The biggest question is how willing Flores is to repeat that onslaught against the Bears, who just became the fourth team this decade to put up 59 or more points in a game. Chicago also has Caleb Williams, who was among the league’s best at avoiding sacks and extending plays last season, and has the arm strength to make any throw on the field out of structure. For all of Minnesota’s success at pressure, the Vikings averaged 3.2 yards of separation on receivers, a fact that Williams and the Ben Johnson-led offense will surely exploit.

The Bears are also a far bigger threat on the ground than the Packers. Chicago has now run for 280 or more yards in a game three times under Johnson, tripling the number of times it happened in franchise history before he showed up — and 154 of those yards came rushing outside the tackles, where Minnesota is considerably more vulnerable, especially when it blitzes.

Do you, Mr. Graff, but Chicago isn’t losing twice in two years at home to Minnesota.

Note: Vikings cant get no love

Justin Jefferson’s Week 2 Role with Vikings Expected to be Enhanced
https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/justin-jeffersons-week-2-role-113025468.html

Bears Get Strong Words From Cris Carter Before Vikings Game
https://heavy.com/sports/nfl/minnesota-vikings/bears-strong-words-cris-carter-game/

The P/PTSD Perspective: 1 Rookie Stands Tall, Vikings Roster Moves, and Kyler Murray
https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/p-ptsd-perspective-1-rookie-120000301.html

Trade Partner: Jets
Sent: Pick 21, Pick 161
Received: Pick 23, Pick 122
…
Trade Partner: Chiefs
Sent: Pick 89
Received: Pick 94, Pick 169
…
Pick R1.23 Jadan Baugh, RB, Florida: 6’1”, 230 lbs
Pick R2.52 Jayden Maiava, QB, USC: 6’4”, 220 lbs
Pick R3.88 Princewill Umanmielen, EDGE, LSU: 6’4”, 256 lbs
Pick R3.94 Vicari Swain, CB, South Carolina: 6’0”, 193 lbs
Pick R4.122 Ben Roberts, LB, Texas Tech: 6’3”, 245 lbs
Pick R5.152 Drew Bobo, IOL, Georgia: 6’5”, 305 lbs
Pick R5.169 Amare Thomas, WR, Houston: 6’0”, 205 lbs
Pick R6.191 McKale Boley, OT, Virginia: 6’5”, 329 lbs
Pick R6.204 Adepoju Adebawore, EDGE, Oklahoma: 6’4”, 260 lbs
Pick R6.214 Devon Jackson, LB, Oregon: 6’2”, 242 lbs
Pick R7.245 Earl Little II, S, Ohio State: 6’0”, 203 lbs

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm

No discussion of politics or religion

Leave the gender hatred at the door

Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)

Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags

No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer

If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away

The Vikings are now facing the Bears without K1, Jennings, and Mason.
