Compared to the rest of the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts<\/a> handed out the eighth-lowest amount of guaranteed money to their undrafted rookie signings.<\/p>\n

According to Spotrac<\/a>, the Colts<\/a> spent $642,500 in guarantees to sign their 15-man undrafted rookie class. Only the Packers<\/a>, Bengals<\/a>, Rams<\/a>, Chargers<\/a>, Bills, Steelers<\/a>, and Ravens<\/a> spent less.<\/p>\n

On the other end of things, there were six teams that spent more than $2 million in UDFA guarantees.<\/p>\n

Now, on the flip side, cornerback Johnathan Edwards from Tulane, whom the Colts signed, received the sixth-most<\/a> guaranteed money among all UDFA additions league-wide. Edwards’ $280,000 in guarantees accounts for nearly half of what the Colts spent in total.<\/p>\n

These UDFA guarantees can vary wildly from player to player and team to team. It’s up to the discretion of the general manager when it comes to what they want to spend, and the amount of guaranteed money is a big part of the negotiating process when multiple teams are vying for one player.<\/p>\n
