The Washington Commanders<\/a>\u2018 first two weeks of the NFL season have gone pretty much as badly as they possibly could have.<\/p>\n They\u2019re not only 0-2, but they\u2019re also 0-2 against NFC East division opponents, and they lost their star quarterback, Jayden Daniels<\/a>, in the process to an elbow injury.<\/p>\n Daniels has avoided surgery for now, and the Commanders consider him week-to-week without placing him on IR.<\/p>\n Commanders Rule Out 5 Players vs. Seahawks<\/p>\n Despite the optimistic news on Daniels, the Commanders still ruled him out for their Week 3 matchup against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks<\/a>, along with four other players.<\/p>\n The other four players Washington has already ruled out for Sunday\u2019s game include guard Sam Cosmi<\/a> (concussion), safety Nick Cross<\/a> (illness), linebacker Frankie Luvu (groin), and tight end Chig Okonkwo (hamstring).<\/p>\n Outside of those five players, the Commanders have linebacker Leo Chenal<\/a> entering the weekend limited with a chest injury, while the other 10 players who appeared on Friday\u2019s injury report<\/a> were full participants.<\/p>\n #SEAvsWAS<\/a> game status<\/p>\n \u2014 Washington Commanders (@Commanders) September 25, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n Who\u2019s Starting in Daniels\u2019 Place?<\/p>\n Veteran QB Marcus Mariota<\/a> will take the reins while Daniels remains sidelined with his injury after entering last week\u2019s game and playing the entire second half quite well.<\/p>\n He completed 11-of-16 passes for 111 yards and one touchdown while rushing once for three yards.<\/p>\n Commanders GM Gives Update on Daniels\u2019 Status<\/p>\n Daniels spent the last three days visiting different specialists who examined his elbow before Commanders GM Adam Peters<\/a> confirmed that the team isn\u2019t considering surgery at this time.<\/p>\n \u201cAs of right now, surgery is not on the table and we haven\u2019t discussed IR,\u201d Peters said.<\/p>\n Last season, Daniels suffered the same injury to the same elbow and didn\u2019t undergo surgery, which allowed him to return in about one month.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\tCole Sullivan<\/a> Cole Sullivan is a sports journalist for Heavy.com covering the NFL, NBA, college football, and college basketball.
