Longtime broadcaster Al Michaels made a mistake on \u201cThursday Night Football\u201d that drew some criticism from NFL fans.<\/p>\n

While discussing Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr.\u2019s return to action this season following a torn ACL, Michaels mistakenly said that Penix went to the University of Oregon, when in reality, he went to the rival University of Washington.<\/p>\n

Fans immediately jumped to criticize Michaels online, particularly those who attended the Big Ten school in question.<\/p>\n

\u201cAl Michaels is already drunk. He said Michael Penix went to Oregon when he actually went to Washington,\u201d one fan tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAl Michaels just committed the cardinal sin of football, saying Michael Penix had \u2018two great years at Oregon,\u2019\u201d another said.<\/a><\/p>\n

Michaels eventually issued a correction on the air.<\/p>\n

Michaels\u2019 mistake was especially cringeworthy for Washington fans. <\/p>\n

Penix led the 2023 Huskies to a perfect 13-0 start en route to a national championship game appearance, where Washington lost to Michigan. Penix would finish second in Heisman Trophy voting that year, the highest ever for a Huskie.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time the legendary Michaels, 81, has been called out during his tenure with Amazon Prime. In recent years, fans have called some of his touchdown calls unenthusiastic, with some pushing for him to retire. <\/p>\n

Michaels addressed that criticism three years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, sometimes I\u2019ll take some s\u2013t. People say, \u2018He didn\u2019t get excited enough.\u2019 What do you want me to do? Scream, holler, yell the game? That ain\u2019t me,\u201d Michaels told Sports Business Journal in 2023.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThat ain\u2019t [Joe] Buck, that ain\u2019t [Jim] Nantz\u2026You can\u2019t let things like that distress you. I\u2019ve been doing this for so long. And I wouldn\u2019t be here at this point still doing a major package if I was doing it the wrong way.\u201d<\/p>\n
