JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 The Jacksonville Jaguars are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month on and off the field, recognizing two local student-athletes ahead of Sunday\u2019s home game.<\/p>\n
Lorena Clutter, a wide receiver and linebacker at The Bolles School, and Enrique Ordo\u00f1ez, a running back at Nease High School, were named nominees for the Jaguars\u2019 2026 NFL Latino Youth Honors.<\/p>\n
The two were recognized just before kickoff for their contributions in athletics, leadership, academics and service.<\/p>\n
Students reflect on the recognition<\/p>\n
For Ordo\u00f1ez, the honor carried deep personal meaning.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was awesome being a Latino kid \u2014 a lot of people didn\u2019t expect me to play football, and it\u2019s usually soccer, track, or cross country,\u201d Ordo\u00f1ez said. \u201cJust being able to be a Latino and represent my Mexican heritage on the football field \u2014 it\u2019s just an amazing experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
Clutter said she was surprised and moved when she learned about her nomination.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels great. I am truly honored to be here today,\u201d Clutter said. \u201cWhen I first found out, I was shocked that I was submitted for the nomination. I was just like, oh my goodness, this is such a surreal experience \u2014 to represent the Latin community and Saint Johns and just be an inspiration to the young community. It just means a lot to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jaguars Foundation hosts essay contest awards luncheon<\/p>\n
The Jaguars\u2019 Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations continue with an upcoming event in partnership with Duval County Public Schools.<\/p>\n
Oct. 2 DCPS Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest Awards Ceremony Luncheon<\/p>\n
The Jaguars Foundation and Duval County Public Schools will host elementary, middle and high school winners of the annual Hispanic Heritage Month essay competition at an awards luncheon. The contest was open to all Duval County 4th\u201312th grade students, who were encouraged to write about a living person of Hispanic or Latino heritage from the Jacksonville community who has made a significant contribution.<\/p>\n
