Hockenson and the rest of the Vikings in week four of the 2026 season. Jeff Hafley’s bunch once again battled hard throughout the entire contest — but ultimately fell to the undefeated Minnesota squad by a score of 15-10.

Without their top weapon, running back De’Von Achane, and rookie standout receiver, Caleb Douglas, Miami’s offense was stagnant for most of the afternoon. Their defense, however, played their best game all season. The Dolphins may be 0-4 in the standings, but they are getting better each week. It won’t be long until they claim their first victory of the year.

But, before we look too far into the future, let’s take a look back at the good, bad and ugly from Miami’s week four loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Dolphins keep Vikings out of endzone; hold Minnesota offense to nothing but field goals

If there was one positive to take away from Sunday’s loss, it was the performance of Miami’s defense.

For a team that entered Week 4 searching for answers, holding a 3-0 Minnesota Vikings team without a touchdown is no small accomplishment. Sure, they were without stud receiver Justin Jefferson, but the Dolphins limited Minnesota to just 15 points, forcing kicker Will Reichard to account for every single point on the Vikings’ scoreboard via five field goals.

Miami’s defensive front deserves plenty of credit for making life uncomfortable for quarterback Kyler Murray. The Dolphins generated four sacks and consistently applied pressure — preventing Minnesota from finding the rhythm it wanted offensively. Rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez finished the tilt with 18 total tackles!

Miami’s pass rush was particularly encouraging, with Zach Sieler, Josh Uche and Chop Robinson contributing to a defensive effort that looked considerably more disruptive than what we had seen through the first three weeks — repeatedly finding ways to make Minnesota scrap and claw for its points.

The defense gave Miami a legitimate opportunity to steal a road victory. It created stops, generated pressure, and kept the opposing offense out of the end zone for four quarters.

Unfortunately, the offense couldn’t return the favor.

Miami’s passing offense nearly nonexistent in loss

The Dolphins’ passing offense was simply not good enough on Sunday.

Malik Willis finished the afternoon completing 9 of 17 passes for just 85 yards, with no touchdowns — accumulating a paltry 67.0 passer rating. Throughout the entire game, Miami struggled to generate anything resembling a legitimate passing attack.

That effort is not going to cut it.

Miami’s inability to consistently threaten Minnesota through the air allowed the Vikings to remain comfortable defensively. The Dolphins struggled to sustain drives, failed to capitalize on opportunities, and ultimately put far too much responsibility on a defense that was doing everything it could to keep the game within reach.

There was a moment when it appeared Miami had finally found the explosive play it desperately needed. Willis connected with rookie wide receiver Chris Bell for what looked like a dazzling 68-yard touchdown. Unfortunately, the play was erased by an illegal-touching penalty after Bell was ruled to have stepped out of bounds (by a toenail) before making the catch.

It was a devastating, yet appropriate moment for a Dolphins offense that seemed incapable of getting out of its own way all game.

The Dolphins cannot expect to win football games while producing fewer than 200 total yards — they had 198 yards on Sunday. At some point, the offense has to become part of the solution rather than another problem for the coaching staff to address.

Both teams combined for 20 total penalties; 15 in the first half alone

If you enjoy watching football games interrupted by yellow flags, Sunday’s first half was practically your Super Bowl.

For everyone else, it was an unmitigated nightmare.

The Dolphins and Vikings combined for 15 penalties before halftime, turning what should have been a competitive NFL contest into an exercise in frustration.

That’s an astonishing amount of self-inflicted nonsense, particularly for two teams attempting to establish offensive rhythm and control the game. False starts, holding calls, and other costly infractions repeatedly disrupted the flow of the afternoon. Drives became longer than necessary, promising situations disappeared, and both teams struggled to establish any kind of consistency.

There is a difference between playing aggressively and playing undisciplined football. Sunday’s first half featured far too much of the latter.

The final penalty totals told the story. Miami finished with nine penalties for 55 yards, while Minnesota was flagged 11 times for 85 yards — 20 combined penalties for 140 yards over the course of the afternoon.

Let’s hope the Dolphins can clean things up on the penalty front when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals next Sunday.

The Dolphins find themselves sitting at 0-4 to begin the Jeff Hafley era in Miami, but they are showing improvements in certain areas.
