2027 NFL Draft•Steelers News

"PittsburghAyrton Breckenridge/Clarion Ledger / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

The Pittsburgh Steelers scouted a potential first-round quarterback battle on Saturday, as the Steelers had two members of the front office in Austin, Texas as the Texas Longhorns hosted the Ole Miss Rebels.

Texas is lead by Arch Manning, once the presumptive top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft class, but Manning has been struggling mightily, with Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian challenging him to improve his play this week after back-to-back losses to Florida and Oklahoma.

Manning, the nephew of NFL legends Payton and Eli Manning, was expected for years to be a top draft prospect, but he has fallen to No. 5 on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board.

Ole Miss features Trinidad Chambliss at quarterback. Currently the No. 12 prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft class and the fifth-best quarterback, Chambliss has been plenty productive in his redshirt senior season with the Rebels.

After leading the SEC in passing, taking Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff and finishing eighth in Heisman Trophy voting last year, Chambliss has upped his game in 2026. He’s improved his completion percentage, and is throwing for more yards and touchdowns per game. He’s coming off back-to-back three-touchdown performances against Missouri and Vanderbilt.

The problem with Chambliss is his lack of stature. He’s listed at just 6-foot, 210 pounds by Ole Miss.

Derek Bell of Steelers Now ranks Manning as the No. 3 quarterback in the class and Chambliss as the No. 4.

The Steelers have now scouted all of the top six quarterbacks in the 2027 NFL Draft class in-person this season.
