Whether or not there’s any fire behind the smoke, Derrick Brown’s name has been popping up<\/a> as the NFL trade deadline nears. But it may be another Carolina Panthers<\/a> defender who actually has a chance of moving by Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, in dishing out his latest news and notes, wrote on Friday<\/a> that the defensive tackle market is “hot.” Among who could be drawing interest is Bobby Brown III:<\/p>\n

Washington\u2019s Daron Payne was drawing interest before he got hurt. Obviously that\u2019s off the table now. Grover Stewart\u2019s an option, with the Saints<\/a>\u2019 Davon Godchaux and Nathan Shepherd, Patriots\u2019 Christian Barmore and Panthers\u2019 Bobby Brown III others who\u2019ve come up in trade talks. To this point, the Eagles<\/a> have said no to teams on Moro Ojomo (more on him in a bit), and the Dolphins have done the same with Zach Sieler.<\/p>\n

Brown is currently in the second season of his three-year, $21 million pact. But between a few injuries and some underwhelming play, that deal has not turned out well for Carolina as of yet.<\/p>\n

The Panthers have started Brown in six of his 22 regular-season contests since signing him. He’s totaled 38 combined tackles and half a sack.<\/p>\n

Breer added that teams such as the New York Giants<\/a>, Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> and Minnesota Vikings<\/a> have been inquiring around the league at the position.<\/p>\n
