The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis<\/a> for a free agent visit on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Such visits are important for a player like Davis, who was released by the Jaguars earlier this offseason with a failed physical designation, to be able to prove to the team in the flesh that he\u2019s healthy enough to make an impact.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also a chance for the team to get to know the player\u2019s personality and see if he\u2019s a fit. But if the Steelers just wanted to know about Davis\u2019 personality, they didn\u2019t have to go through all the expense of flying him to Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin could have just taken a walk through the Steelers\u2019 locker room, where one of Davis\u2019 best friends has been working: new Pittsburgh running back Kenneth Gainwell.<\/p>\n

Gainwell and Davis are co-owners of a training facility in Winter Park, Florida \u2014 near Davis\u2019 hometown of Sanford and his alma mater, UCF. They\u2019ve worked together on Gainwell\u2019s youth football camp in Yazoo, Mississippi<\/a>, and Davis was even a part of Gainwell\u2019s wedding this offseason.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s like my brother,\u201d Gainwell said on Tuesday after practice at Steelers OTAs. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to see him. I ain\u2019t seen him in a minute since we\u2019ve been at our gym, but I can\u2019t wait to see him [Wednesday], but it\u2019ll be amazing to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n

They started their current offseason venture in 2023, where they train alongside several other NFL players at The Draft Academy in Florida.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe both live there in the off season, and it\u2019s a great facility, got everything that you need, cryo, cold tub, hot tub, hyperbaric, sauna, gym,\u201d Gainwell said. \u201cSo I mean, we do a lot of that, we fish together, we do a lot of things together, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

The one thing they haven\u2019t done is play together. Gainwell said not only would he love that selfishly, he thinks Davis can really help the Steelers.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody kinda know what type of player he is,\u201d Gainwell said. \u201cWe\u2019ve seen him with Buffalo against Kansas City, four touchdowns in one game. The type of attitude he brings towards the game, and I\u2019d say, man, he\u2019s just a baller, he\u2019s a player to the game just like I am, and he feeds off of energy, so the energy\u2019s high, and he ready to ball, he sees the team winning \u2014 that\u2019s the type of guy we need in the building.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Steelers brass likely won\u2019t just take Gainwell\u2019s name for it, but it\u2019s clear that Davis has at least one loud voice advocating for his signing in the building.<\/p>\n
