He co-founded Arkoma Production Company in 1982 but later sold it for $175 million in 1986.

Jones currently owns Arkoma Drilling, a drilling company headquartered in Dallas. Through Arkoma, Jones has invested over one billion in unconventional shale drilling.

In 2018, Jones — via Arkoma Drilling — traded $620 million in oil-producing properties for a majority stake in the company. He later invested an additional $475 million when the Frisco-based natural gas business bought Covey Park Energy in 2019. Just last year, he invested another $100 million to increase his ownership stake to 67%.

Real estate

Blue Star Land is Jones’s real estate and development firm. The company got its start in 1994 when it bought a 550-acre home community in Frisco, Starwood. Since then, Blue Star Land has developed Star Trail in Prosper, Texas, along the Dallas North Tollway and the Gates of Prosper shopping center.

Most notably, the firm is responsible for The Star, the 91-acre development area that is home to Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters and the team’s practice facility.

Technology

Jones’s first entrance into the technology space came in 2017 when he invested in Complexity Gaming. He and the company’s other investors sold the business to Frisco-based GameSquare in 2021, an e-sports and gaming enterprise. As part of the deal, Jones received an ownership stake in the company.

Jones continued his investments in the gaming space by participating in an $18.8-million Series A funding round in 2019 for ProbablyMonsters, a video game company with an office in Fort Worth.

Through the investment firm he backs, Blue Star Innovation Partners, Jones has made several other deals in the technology sector. The company invested in the tech firms OfficeRnD and PlayMetrics in 2023.

Hospitality

In 2008, Jones formed Legends Hospitality, a joint venture with Yankee Global Enterprises. The sports hospitality company included food, beverage, merchandise, retail and stadium operation services. While it originally worked for AT&T Stadium and Yankee Stadium, Legends has since expanded its operations to multiple college and professional venues.

As part of the Cowboys, Jones also founded the sports apparel company 289c Apparel in 2009. Originally named Silver Star Merchandising, it was intended to service the team as an affiliate of Dallas Cowboys Merchandising. The company has since expanded operations to institutions like the University of California, and Jones serves as vice president.

Jones invested in the Dallas-based parking logistics company ParkHub in 2016 as well after being impressed by the firm’s work in managing operations at AT&T Stadium.

Other companies

To manage the various investments for his entire family, Jones established Blue and Silver Ventures Ltd. in 2004 as a private investment company. The firm has managed deals for Jones such as the partnership with pizza giant Papa John’s.

Adding on to his various businesses associated with the Cowboys, Jones launched Cowboys Fit in 2017, a 60,000-square-foot high-end gym at The Star. Other Cowboys Fit locations have since opened in Plano, Dallas and Pflugerville.

For nearly 40 years, the name Jerry Jones has been synonymous with the Dallas Cowboys.
