The\u00a0Cincinnati Bengals<\/a>\u00a0took a small gamble with Amarius Mims in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft and would probably do it again without hesitation.<\/p>\n

Mims arrived and appeared to win the starting right tackle job in training camp before a minor injury dashed things. When another injury opened up the job, he entered and never really let it go, at times flashing the major upside that had his draft stock soaring despite concerns about playing time in college.<\/p>\n

In a 2024 NFL re-draft from Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox<\/a>, though, the Bengals<\/a> instead pick Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins:<\/p>\n

“Pivoting to Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins would help bolster one of the Bengals’ most questionable units (21st in passing yards allowed last season) with a premier prospect. Wiggins appeared in 15 games for the Baltimore Ravens<\/a> in 2024 and allowed an opposing passer rating of just 66.7 in coverage.”<\/p>\n

Wiggins, the 30th pick by the Ravens, played in 14 games last year with one interception. In this re-draft, Mims falls out of the first round.<\/p>\n

As mentioned, though, the Bengals wouldn’t think much about going away from Mims. They don’t have anybody else on the roster who can start well on the right edge and despite his concerns, Mims was considered one of the best tackles in the class.<\/p>\n

Perhaps more notably, the team still has high hopes for former second-rounders Cam Taylor-Britt and DJ Turner at cornerback. Dax Hill, the former first-round safety, was their best corner last year before an injury, too, and as they’ve shown this year, the Bengals don’t want to throw in the proverbial towel on those players just yet.<\/p>\n
