Many sources before were told that the talks were not to be expected, but they’re back in the mix, and it could be very soon that Smith will be in a new uniform as he’s looking for a new contract. However, it’s interesting that the Steelers are looking to add another tight end, being that they still have starter Pat Freiermuth and backup Darnell Washington.

Despite that, Smith prefers to stay in Miami, but on a new fair deal. It’s hard to imagine that will happen with the Dolphins after spending just one year with them, recording franchise records for 88 receptions and 884 receiving yards. It’s no surprise that Smith is looking for a new contract, as he solidified his 2024 campaign despite the losing circumstances in Miami; he still made an impact with the Dolphins either way. It shouldn’t be surprising if Smith garners interest elsewhere if Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith can’t figure out a way to push hard to reunite with Jonnu Smith.

Since trading away George Pickens to Dallas, the Steelers are still in the market for a pass-catcher. After finally working out a deal with Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers are possibly preparing to have a veteran championship roster that consists of wide receiver DK Metcalf. However, these two teams could intervene and reach out to the Dolphins for a possible deal.

Jan 5, 2025; East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA; Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith (9) scores a touchdown during the fourth quarter of their game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. The Chargers will probably have one of the worst receiver units in the league despite signing veteran Mike Williams and drafting Tre Harris. It clearly didn’t work out when Joshua Palmer was inconsistent, and they couldn’t get any type of life from Quentin Johnston.

As of this posting, 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is the most reliable weapon on this roster. Smith is playing at his peak, and the Chargers could take advantage to not only give him a new contract since they have the cap space for it, but also make him the main starter of the unit.

Afterlife of Travis Kelce

Meanwhile, this would be the most logical destination for Smith. He will likely prefer to join a contender where he could win plenty of Super Bowls. With Travis Kelce playing possibly on his last year in the league this upcoming season, Smith might be a capable replacement. He won’t be Kelce 2.0, but enough to make a splash to bring Patrick Mahomes‘ passing game back to life.

After speculation and rumors, the Pittsburgh Steelers are reactivating trade talks for Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith.…

[2055
5403,5404,7,7470,922,2453,2733,5859,6,9073,520,57,2374,2360,426,500,2312
0":"post-112037","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-pittsburgh-steelers","8":"tag-chargers-featured","9":"tag-chiefs-featured","10":"tag-football","11":"tag-jonnu-smith","12":"tag-kansas-city-chiefs-news","13":"tag-los-angeles-chargers-news","14":"tag-miami-dolphins-news","15":"tag-mike-williams","16":"tag-nfl","17":"tag-pat-freiermuth","18":"tag-pittsburgh","19":"tag-pittsburgh-steelers","20":"tag-pittsburgh-steelers-news","21":"tag-pittsburghsteelers","22":"tag-steelers","23":"tag-travis-kelce","24":"tag-tyler-conklin
["GET
