said Schefter<\/a>. “There also have been teams that have approached the Falcons about trading for Kyle Pitts. Now, I don’t think the Falcons are looking to deal him, but they’re not turning away the calls, either. So if there were a team that were willing to give up enough to get him, I think they could be enticed into trading the former top-five overall selection.”<\/p>\nSchefter then gave an update on Cousins’ situation. The veteran quarterback is set to earn $27.5 million this season, which is arguably the biggest reason he’s still in Atlanta. According to Schefter, the Steelers are the team to watch in regard to Cousins.<\/p>\n
“A week from now, as we mentioned, the Pittsburgh Steelers open their mandatory minicamp,” explained the ESPN insider. “We’re waiting, any day now we would think, for a decision from Aaron Rodgers about whether or not and when he will sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.”<\/p>\n
Rodgers has seemingly been on the verge of signing with the Steelers all offseason, but Schefter said the team could become impatient if the veteran quarterback doesn’t show up for camp.<\/p>\n
“If you are the Pittsburgh Steelers, don’t you at that time have to have a conversation about whether you should explore trading for Kirk Cousins and lobbying a call to the Atlanta Falcons to make a move there- being that Aaron Rodgers, as of this taping, has not committed to Pittsburgh?”<\/p>\n
The Falcons are in a good spot here since they have nothing to lose by keeping Cousins. That gives them a little more leverage against any team that becomes desperate for a quarterback.
