The Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> recently added free agent Trenton Irwin to the wide receiver room.<\/p>\n

Irwin joins the Jaguars<\/a> after playing his first six NFL seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals<\/a>. During that span, Irwin has appeared in 41 games, catching 46 passes for 601 yards with five touchdowns.<\/p>\n

His most productive season as a pass catcher came in 2023, when he totaled 316 receiving yards, per PFF<\/a>. Irwin also has some kick return experience.<\/p>\n

Irwin has experience playing in a similar style of offense to the one the Jaguars operate under with Liam Coen. Bengals’ head coach Zac Taylor, like Coen, comes from the Sean McVay coaching tree, and that familiarity can help Irwin hit the ground running.<\/p>\n

After last Thursday’s OTA practice, Coen was asked about the addition of Irwin.<\/p>\n

“You have a little bit of a runway the next couple of days to get acclimated,”\u00a0Coen said.<\/a>\u00a0“Continuing to add competition to the room and guys that have played some meaningful snaps in the league in a similar system.<\/p>\n

“Just the type of person he is that we’ve heard from Zac (Taylor) and those guys in Cincinnati, just continuing to develop the roster, really. So far he’s been a great guy to get to know a little bit and he’ll continue to learn the offense as we go here.”<\/p>\n

At the top of the Jaguars’ wide receiver depth chart, we know Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, Dyami Brown, and Parker Washington hold those first four spots. But beyond that group, there is a roster spot or two up for grabs, depending on whether the Jaguars keep five or six receivers.<\/p>\n

Coen recently mentioned Josh Cephus and undrafted rookie Cam Camper as two players who were standing out during OTAs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Irwin will now enter that mix and bolster the competition on the back end of this position group.<\/p>\n
