ESPN\u2019s Mike Reiss<\/a>, McDaniels offered an encouraging review of Maye\u2019s early-offseason progression.<\/p>\n\u201cHe\u2019s doing really well. He\u2019s very smart. Works really hard,\u201d McDaniels said. \u201cHe\u2019s doing a really good job of digesting the information, processing the corrections when there is a correction to be made, and going out there with a great attitude and mindset the next day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Quarterbacks coach Ashton Grant also praised Maye\u2019s assimilation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Drake is doing a helluva job with a change from one offense to a new offense,\u201d Grant said. \u201cHe\u2019s been a pro\u2019s pro. He\u2019s been super intentional with everything we\u2019ve asked him to do, so I couldn\u2019t be happier with where he is right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Reiss noted that Vrabel introduced a drill during New England\u2019s voluntary team activities that placed extra responsibility on his young quarterback. With the offense lined up at the goal line, they all sprinted on the snap count after Maye yelled out the cadence. <\/p>\n
The exercise is one way the Patriots are pushing Maye to take charge. Perhaps it\u2019s working, as running back Rhamondre Stevenson called his 22-year-old teammate a \u201cleader.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has that kind of \u2018oomph\u2019 to him,\u201d Stevenson said.<\/p>\n

Maye showed some promising signs as a rookie, completing 66.6 percent of his passes for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
