As offseason practices unfold, a wave of momentum is building around the 26-year-old, not only for his physical performance but for his commanding presence on and off the field.

Contract year pressure? Tua Tagovoiloa responds with swagger and command

The 2025 NFL season could be a turning point in Tagovailoa’s career. Entering the final year of his contract, with extension talks still pending, the spotlight is brighter than ever. But rather than being burdened by expectations, Tua appears more driven, confident, and engaged than at any point in his NFL journey. From his teammates to coaches, everyone around the Dolphins’ facility is noticing a clear change in his approach — one that goes beyond talent and stats.“He looks confident, coming out with a different swag. He’s got dye in his hair and some other stuff,” said wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. “He looks like he’s just eager to play.”This version of Tua feels different. Gone is the quiet, tentative signal-caller of past seasons. In his place is a quarterback who takes charge, guides teammates, and demonstrates ownership at every level of the operation.

From quiet starter to locker room general

Offensive tackle Austin Jackson captured the shift, “He’s definitely a lot more confident and decisive on and off the field. He knows what people are supposed to be doing in terms of training. He knows what we’re doing on the field. He knows how to take care of his body. He knows how to unite guys, bring us together for team camaraderie and stuff, just to get together,” Jackson said. “He’s a full-blown leader, and I think he’s showing that he wants to take control of this team. And he is.”Head coach Mike McDaniel also emphasized Tua’s growing influence, praising his control of the offense during key practice reps. “He’s had most ownership of all the players on each and every down, particularly in non-passing downs. There were double motions where he was aligning people appropriately. He really had command and resolve within the practice of things,” McDaniel explained. Also read: Tua Tagovailoa faces uncertain future in Miami as Dolphins’ faith fades and rebuild rumors grow louderFor a Dolphins team aiming to establish dominance in a stacked AFC, Tua’s leadership growth might be the X-factor.
