Oscar McInerney\u2019s \u201cdeserved rest\u201d could extend by at least another week as the Lions continue to manage the health and fitness of their first-choice ruckman.<\/p>\n

McInerney has missed Brisbane\u2019s past four games with niggling injuries that include a back problem.<\/p>\n

However, the 30-year-old big man has been deemed fit enough to be named among the emergencies for Brisbane\u2019s past three matches to cover for any late mishaps that might occur with his replacement, premiership-winning ruckman Darcy Fort.<\/p>\n

Brisbane star Jarrod Berry said the team did not \u201cmiss anything\u201d with having Fort in the line-up, with the Lions seemingly in no hurry to recall McInerney despite losing to Adelaide by five points last Friday night.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Big O\u2019 has been a warhorse for us for so long, and he\u2019s one of those guys that won\u2019t say how he\u2019s feeling,\u201d Berry said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s going pretty good from what I can gather. I\u2019m not fully across it in terms of the exact thing that\u2019s going wrong, but he\u2019s out there on the track, he\u2019s training, he\u2019s looking good, but he needed that deserved rest.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll be back in that later part of the year. I don\u2019t think we miss anything because \u2018Forty\u2019 fills that void really well and has been playing some great footy over the last few weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Berry lauded the \u201cenergy\u201d that McInerney provided whether he was playing or sidelined.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s one of those guys that really leads with action, and you walk taller with him around here,\u201d Berry said.<\/p>\n

While disappointed to lose to the Crows at Adelaide Oval, particularly with Brisbane having had a host of chances in the final quarter to win, Berry was confident the second-placed Lions would bounce back on Saturday at the Gabba against the GWS Giants.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe played how we wanted to in that fourth quarter (against Adelaide). We just didn\u2019t take our moments and finish our work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUpon reflection, there\u2019s probably a few guys that felt like they let the team down in that aspect, but that\u2019s football.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe owned what we wanted to own in that quarter. It was in our forward half a lot. It\u2019s just making the most of those moments and those opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Lions and the Giants will renew a rivalry that reached a high point in last year\u2019s finals series when Brisbane fought back from 44 points down in the third quarter at Engie Stadium to win by five points and end GWS\u2019s season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt definitely adds a little bit extra to it but \u2026 this year\u2019s a new year. We\u2019re both coming off a loss, so we\u2019re both going to want to respond,\u201d Berry said.<\/p>\n
