HENDERSON (KTNV) \u2014 The Las Vegas Raiders began mandatory minicamp Tuesday with full attendance and a focused tone as the team builds under new head coach Pete Carroll.<\/p>\n

Veteran tackle Kolton Miller, the longest-tenured player on the roster, said the rookie class is already making a strong impression.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re listening, looking for ways to improve every day,\u201d Miller said. \u201cCharles [Grant] and Caleb [Rodgers] \u2014 they\u2019re doing it the right way. You can see the focus and the work after practice.\u201d<\/p>\n
That mindset is crucial across the board, especially on special teams, where new NFL kickoff rules are expected to reshape the game.<\/p>\n
Special teams coordinator Ton McMahon said he anticipates far fewer touchbacks and significantly more live returns.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year, there were 2,800 kickoffs \u2014 2,000 were touchbacks,\u201d McMahon said. \u201cThis year, I think it\u2019s going to be more like 2,200 kickoffs and only 600 touchbacks. I don\u2019t think anybody\u2019s just going to give up the 35-yard line.\u201d<\/p>\n
Veteran kicker Daniel Carlson welcomed the change.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s kind of like a soccer-style kick now,\u201d he said. \u201cYou don\u2019t want to just blast it deep \u2014 it\u2019s about feel, placement, and making it hard for the returner.\u201d<\/p>\n
