We wanted to increase the talent level. We feel like we were able to do that with both veterans and younger players. That was a priority for us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NFL season, it\u2019s attrition and especially on the line of scrimmage. It\u2019s hard to keep guys healthy and we\u2019ve suffered from that. So, increasing both the depth and the talent level was definitely something that we wanted to do going into the offseason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cardinals\u2019 Josh Sweat ready to take the lead<\/p>\n<p>Of Arizona\u2019s offseason signings, <a href=\"https:\/\/arizonasports.com\/nfl\/arizona-cardinals\/josh-sweat\/3576515\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Sweat<\/a> marks the biggest.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Cardinals\u2019 big-ticket signing and pass rusher Josh Sweat gets his first taste of practicing in the Arizona heat. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eNvbwWF4jD\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/eNvbwWF4jD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tyler Drake (@Tdrake4sports) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tdrake4sports\/status\/1932489090324418920?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">June 10, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fresh off a Super Bowl victory where he racked up 2.5 sacks on Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Sweat brings with him a pass-rushing pedigree that has been missing from Arizona\u2019s ranks in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>His familiarity with both Jonathan Gannon and Nick Rallis from their time together in Philadelphia is an added bonus that can\u2019t be forgotten, especially when looking at the 18.5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss and 101 pressures the pass rusher had in his two seasons under his then-Eagles DC Gannon.<\/p>\n<p>Sweat even knew a thing or two about Arizona\u2019s training facility after the Eagles used the Cardinals\u2019 Tempe HQ for Super Bowl prep.<\/p>\n<p>Now playing for a defense that underwhelmed when rushing the passer \u2014 Zaven Collins paced the team with five sacks and 33 pressures \u2014 Sweat embraces being the main figurehead in Arizona\u2019s new era of defense.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Josh Sweat not only sees himself as a leader of the Cardinals\u2019 new movement defensively, he embraces it. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0lO7Z32IZl\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/0lO7Z32IZl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tyler Drake (@Tdrake4sports) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tdrake4sports\/status\/1932945144573276395?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">June 11, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just trying to be the best teammate, help however I can and just trying to get to know everybody body and stuff,\u201d Sweat said Wednesday. \u201cAt that point, everybody a lot more comfortable around me. I\u2019m getting more comfortable around them. At the end of the day, everybody should be a leader. You know what I\u2019m saying? But I just want to help change whatever I can and make it better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It hasn\u2019t taken long for his new teammates to see why Sweat has racked up the sacks, pressures and QB hits across seven seasons of work, either.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he speaks, you understand his level (of football knowledge),\u201d Zaven Collins told Bickley &amp; Marotta on Wednesday. \u201cYou can really understand someone\u2019s knowledge of the game pretty quick and what they do, especially in a professional setting, and he said something I didn\u2019t even think about. \u2026 He looks at it from a different way, a different perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After finishing 23rd in pressures (197) and tied for 13th in sacks (41), any new perspective is good for this Cardinals defense.<\/p>\n<p>Brotherhood forming within new-look DL room<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the massive addition to Arizona\u2019s outside linebackers room, the defensive line saw a hefty influx of talent this offseason led by the trio of Tomlinson, Campbell and Nolen. And that\u2019s without mentioning new defensive line coach Winston DeLattiboudere.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Another example of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Coach_DeBo46?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">@Coach_DeBo46<\/a> bringing the energy to the Cardinals\u2019 practice fields. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TmfyPsGDNQ\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/TmfyPsGDNQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tyler Drake (@Tdrake4sports) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tdrake4sports\/status\/1932796880314105970?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">June 11, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tomlinson, Campbell and Nolen could start at some point or another this season, and that\u2019s before even mentioning returning options Darius Robinson, Dante Stills and L.J. Collier, among others.<\/p>\n<p>And while there\u2019s plenty of excitement surrounding revamped room, the added competition means fewer roster spots.<\/p>\n<p>Those inside the room, however, are more focused on growing together as a group rather than spreading apart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe already got a brotherhood,\u201d Tomlinson said. \u201cIt was just natural thing young guys as well as old guys like me and Calais, we\u2019re ready to work and get better. Like I was telling them today, we could learn stuff from the young guys just like we want them to learn stuff from us.
