Originally selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Clemson product is coming off one of the worst campaigns in his career after logging just 12 receptions for 166 receiving yards with the New York Jets. After a trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he finally saw some life as a main contributor to the offense, but he wasn’t explosive like he once was during the golden times in Los Angeles.

The Chargers signed him back this offseason to bring some relief to Justin Herbert’s aerial attack, but it might be enough for him to secure a starting role for the wide receiver. The team is building their future around draft picks Ladd McConkey, Tre Harris and Keandre Lambert-Smith, so he isn’t the favorite to be a long-term weapon for Herbert anyway. While Williams is on a low-stakes, cheap contract, the wide receiver is trying to re-establish himself, and it doesn’t help if Quentin Johnston is looking to prove something in his self as well. There’s not a lot of room for Williams to grow in a young offense entering age 30, so it shouldn’t be surprising if the Chargers cut him if they can’t find a trade partner, since he probably won’t attract any suitors either way to get him.

Main Photo: Barry Reeger-Imagn Images
Report: Chargers Could Cut Top Weapon Mike Williams – 5 Possible Next Teams
Potential Destinations
Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver situation looks to be an interesting one as Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice are the future, but the backend of this depth chart doesn’t look promising. Despite re-signing Marquise Brown, the Chiefs are lacking capable veteran insurance that can help quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mike Williams won’t beat out Worthy or Rice for the starting job, but continues upgrading this unit.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Ravens are in the best position to possibly head to the Super Bowl finally, after failing to make it to the AFC Championship last year. They need one last push, and it wouldn’t hurt to sign Williams if he becomes available in the market and pair with DeAndre Hopkins. No one is taking Zay Flowers‘ or Rashod Bateman’s shine on the field, but the older the roster is, the more experience that can help the Ravens in situational playoff moments.

Dallas Cowboys

Despite trading for George Pickens this offseason, the Dallas Cowboys could use another wide receiver. Jalen Tolbert is entering the final year of his contract, but they’re lacking a true WR4. Mike Williams won’t start over CeeDee Lamb, Pickens or Tolbert, but his presence could open the deep attack for Dak Prescott.

New Orleans Saints

However, the Saints will be without an adequate quarterback, so that means they should get as many weapons to help support Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler. With Rashid Shaheed entering his contract year, the Saints must get another wide receiver to help veteran Brandin Cooks in the slot. They did phenomenally well bringing out the best in a lengthy wideout like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and they could probably do the same with Williams in the aerial attack alongside Chris Olave.

Washington Commanders

Following Noah Brown’s injury at practice, it’s still not urgent to add a replacement. Between Michael Gallup and Luke McCaffrey, the Commanders should be fine without the depth behind Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel as long as the team can speed up the process of extending McLaurin. However, they wouldn’t lose much if they gave Williams one chance to see what he could do for this offense as another deep threat.

After finally salvaging their wide receiver unit, there’s still a chance that the Los Angeles Chargers could cut…

[2064
849,241,5403,5404,436,7,467,922,1014,262,2453,2444,2443,5859,401,6,9277,10420,6211,7186,10421,4648
0":"post-127358","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-los-angeles-chargers","8":"tag-baltimore-ravens-news","9":"tag-chargers","10":"tag-chargers-featured","11":"tag-chiefs-featured","12":"tag-dallas-cowboys-news","13":"tag-football","14":"tag-george-pickens","15":"tag-kansas-city-chiefs-news","16":"tag-los-angeles","17":"tag-los-angeles-chargers","18":"tag-los-angeles-chargers-news","19":"tag-losangeles","20":"tag-losangeleschargers","21":"tag-mike-williams","22":"tag-new-orleans-saints-news","23":"tag-nfl","24":"tag-quentin-johnston","25":"tag-ravens-featured","26":"tag-saints-featured","27":"tag-terry-mclaurin","28":"tag-washington-commanders-news","29":"tag-zay-flowers
["GET
