Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward — a former first-round pick — was arrested on Thursday morning on a domestic violence charge, TMZ Sports has confirmed.<\/p>\n

Jail records show the 33-year-old was taken into custody in Montgomery County, Texas at around 5:38 AM and booked on one felony count of assault fam\/house impede breath\/circ.<\/p>\n

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that roughly an hour prior to Ward’s arrest, officers responded to a Magnolia residence over “a report of an assault in progress.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Upon arrival,” the MCSO said, “deputies made contact with the victim, who alleged she had been assaulted, strangled and threatened by her fianc\u00e9,” who cops ID’ed as Ward.<\/p>\n

“Based on the information and statements provided during the investigation,” the MCSO said, “Ward was taken into custody without further incident.”<\/p>\n

After he was booked, law enforcement says an emergency protective order against Ward was also filed “at the victim’s request.”<\/p>\n

The MCSO added it’s still investigating the matter.<\/p>\n

The Texans said in a statement to the Houston Chronicle<\/a> they “are aware of the report involving Jimmie Ward” and “are gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Ward began his NFL career back in 2014 — after the 49ers took him with the No. 30 overall pick in the draft. He played nine years for San Francisco, before joining Houston for the 2023 season.<\/p>\n

In his two years in a Texans uniform, he’s started 20 games and recorded three interceptions. He’s currently under contract with the team through this season.<\/p>\n
