This topic won\u2019t exactly get a deep dive here, but could the Los Angeles Rams<\/a> trade for Cincinnati Bengals<\/a> first round pick Shemar Stewart? The short answer at this time is, yes. Would it happen? I am going to guess the short answer at this time is, no.<\/p>\n

The long answer is anything is possible within the rules (and even sometimes outside of the rules) and at this time teams (including L.A.) have the option to make an offer to the Bengals for Stewart who has yet to sign his rookie contract. <\/p>\n

Shemar Stewart has options (but not many)<\/a> (nbcsports)<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst, he can refuse to sign and demand a trade. The window for trading an unsigned draft pick expires 30 days before \u201cthe first game of the regular season.\u201d This year, the regular season begins with the Eagles hosting the Cowboys on September 4. The window for trading Stewart closes on August 5. After that, Stewart can\u2019t be traded by the Bengals at all in 2025 \u2014 whether he signs or doesn\u2019t sign.\u201d<\/p>\n

My understanding is the Bengals have a history of waiting to pay players, or just not paying them, and players at times don\u2019t love or even tolerate how the franchise handles them (see the saga between Carson Palmer an Cincinnati)<\/a>. It\u2019s wild and from my perspective it\u2019s bad business, but this team was also in the Super Bowl<\/a> a few years ago, so I suppose they know what they are doing. <\/p>\n

What do I know? It\u2019s not my team; it\u2019s certainly not my money.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll see how this unfolds for Stewart, my guess is it gets resolved and he\u2019s on the field for them in Week One, but who knows? Stranger things have happened than a player not suiting up for their team due to a contract dispute.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe seventh-year coach said he has had \u201cpositive conversations\u201d with Stewart amid the dispute, adding that Stewart has attended meetings, been positive in that aspect of his approach, and done a good job of learning ahead of the upcoming season.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor all the rookies, you\u2019d like them to be on the field,\u201d Taylor said. \u201cBut certainly there\u2019s things that happen over the course of an NFL career, and this is one of them right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to his agency<\/a>, the offensive tackle has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Rams<\/a>. Humphries hit free agency in March, but he didn\u2019t get signed right away due to questions about his health. The 31-year-old tore his ACL during Week 15 of the 2023 season, an injury that happened so late that it knocked him out for a good chunk of the 2024 season. Humphries ended up signing with the Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> last season, but he didn\u2019t sign until mid-November and he only ended up playing<\/a> in two games for Kansas City. <\/p>\n

Deal with the 49ers<\/a> breaks down<\/p>\n

During free agency, Humphries agreed to terms with the 49ers with the two sides appearing to have a deal in place on April 29.\u201d <\/p>\n
