Booker T. Washington was intrigued \u2014 thanks in large part to a family connection to the UF staff. That link opened the door, and Florida spent the next year making a strong, consistent push.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, during his official visit to Gainesville, Daniel rewarded the Gators\u2019 persistence by committing to Florida over Auburn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like the coaches, the culture, the vibe, and the players\u2019 relationship they got with the coaches,\u201d Daniel recently told Gators Online.<\/p>\n<p>For Florida, which has been surging on the recruiting trail, Daniel\u2019s pledge is another major addition. The 6-foot-5, 187-pound wideout is ranked as the No. 24 receiver and No. 162 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings. Last season, he recorded 38 receptions for 757 yards \u2014 a 19.9-yard average \u2014 and 12 touchdowns. In total, his high school career includes 82 catches for 1,579 yards and 26 touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>At Booker T. Washington, Daniel has broken receiving records previously held by Chad Lucas, a former Alabama State standout who went on to play in the NFL. Lucas, now a quality control staffer at Florida, played a significant role in Daniel\u2019s recruitment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHim and my mom went to school with each other,\u201d Daniel said. \u201cHe talks to her a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was Lucas who delivered Daniel\u2019s Florida offer last spring during a visit to Gainesville for the 2024 Orange &amp; Blue Game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a good person,\u201d Daniel said at the time. \u201cHe says good things about (the Gators). It felt great to get that offer. But I\u2019ve got to keep working on my stuff. He told me to stay focused and I might be there one day. We talked and he told me to make sure I get faster \u2014 to work on my speed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, the decision came down to Florida and Auburn \u2014 just 21 miles from Daniel\u2019s hometown.
