New York Giants<\/a> rookie running back Cam Skattebo has been accused of neglect resulting in injury, ending the career of his former Arizona State<\/a> teammate, Mattheos Katergaris.<\/p>\n

Citing a recent filing in Maricopa County Superior Court, Jason Wolf of The Arizona Republic<\/a> reports that Skattebo allegedly “jumped up and down” on the back of a golf cart during a Sun Devils practice on July 31, 2023, causing the seat to break.<\/p>\n

Katergaris’ attorney, Neil Udulutch, says the resulting fall led to a severe injury and the end of his client’s football career.<\/p>\n

“He got a really bad laceration, essentially going all the way down to the bone in his elbow,” Udulutch said. “It essentially ruptured his distal triceps tendon 90% of the way, so he required surgery and months of physical therapy.”<\/p>\n

Katergaris has amended his complaint twice, most recently on January 27 when Skattebo was added as a defendant.<\/p>\n

Katergaris\u2019 lawsuit said that Skattebo owed him a \u201cduty of care to act in a way that did not cause the golf cart to become structurally unstable,\u201d and that Skattebo \u201cbreached this duty of care by improperly jumping on the back of the golf cart and proceeding to jump up and down on it for a considerable distance, which caused a structural failure of the golf cart.<\/p>\n

\u201cDefendant Skattebo\u2019s breach was the actual and proximate cause of Plaintiff\u2019s injuries and damages.\u201d<\/p>\n

Skattebo, who was selected by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL draft, denies any wrongdoing, and his attorney, Todd Rinner, wrote in response to the civil filing that Katergaris is not entitled to “any relief in any form whatsoever.”<\/p>\n

Skattebo\u2019s court filing asked that Katergaris\u2019 complaint be dismissed with prejudice and that Skattebo be awarded attorneys\u2019 fees and costs with interest.<\/p>\n

The case is scheduled for a pre-trial conference in February 2026.<\/p>\n
