To kick things off, we’re back with our early 2025 fantasy football Half-PPR running back rankings for redraft leagues. Most NFL teams use a 1-2 punch at running back as the number of bellcow RBs seems to diminish each year. At RotoBaller HQ, we guide you through the RB position and rank over 100 running backs to help crush your upcoming drafts. Whatever you’re interested in, we’ve got you covered.

RotoBaller’s lead NFL analyst Nick Mariano has put together these initial 2025 Half-PPR rankings, which will, of course, be updated regularly throughout the NFL offseason. As injuries happen and depth charts shake up, be sure to check back in.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams

Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams has been one of the more consistent fantasy options in recent years. After finishing as the RB7 in PPR formats in 2023, many fantasy managers believed another top-10 running back finish was not possible. He was set to return punts, and the Rams selected Blake Corum in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. However, Williams showed last year that this is firmly his backfield.

The 24-year-old ran 316 times for 1,299 yards and 14 touchdowns across 16 games. Those strong numbers helped him finish as the RB7 in PPR formats for the second consecutive year. Meanwhile, Corum only saw 58 opportunities on the ground in his rookie season. Therefore, this will be Williams’ backfield once again. He saw at least 18 carries in 10 of 16 games and averaged just over 17 PPR fantasy points per game.

Now, fumbles remain a huge problem for the Pro Bowl running back. He fumbled six times throughout the 2024-2025 season. But if he hangs onto the ball and doesn’t turn it over as much, this is his backfield to lose. That makes him a strong RB1 option once again this year.

– Joey Pollizze

Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints

Alvin Kamara and the New Orleans Saints started 2024 off gangbusters, rolling the Panthers and Cowboys while scoring 40-plus points over the first two weeks of the season. They were the hottest team in football, but an implosion on offense and injuries across the roster, including quarterback Derek Carr (shoulder) and wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, ultimately spelled disaster for New Orleans. Amid the chaos, Kamara still managed to shine.

He was the overall PPR RB9 — and better on a PPG basis (RB5) –, missing three games at the end of the year with a groin injury. 2025 will prove more challenging, though, with Carr retired and one of Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler, or rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough manning the helm. New Orleans added a solid third target in Brandin Cooks and should have a healthy Shaheed and Olave for the campaign, which is good, but could hurt the PPR value of Kamara if he’s not targeted at the same rate he was with Carr.

Fortunately, he’ll remain the top rusher and retain some of his volume with teammates Kendre Miller and rookie Devin Neal backing him up. Kamara can still be a great fantasy pick, but if his target share comes down and scores are hard to come by, we could see a year closer to his 2022 finish (RB16). He’s RotoBaller’s RB17 and No.44 overall in the rankings

– Alex Ciulla

Omarion Hampton, Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers drafted rookie running back Omarion Hampton with the 22nd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Hampton was seen as one of the top rushers available in the NFL Draft, and there were murmurs that some teams had him neck and neck with Ashton Jeanty for RB1 of the class. With head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman deploying a run-heavy offense, Los Angeles is a fantastic landing spot for the rookie.

The Chargers did sign former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris to a one-year deal this offseason. He should open the season as the starter, which may present a roadblock toward immediate production for Hampton. While Harris did not live up to the hype as a first-round pick, he is not as bad a player as some think. However, Hampton is a much better player, and Harris will not stand in the way of him taking over this backfield. An RB1 finish might be a tough ask since Hampton will likely be stuck in a committee right out of the gates. But by season’s end, Hampton should be fully in control of this backfield. He makes for a fine RB2 target in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts.

– Dave Ventresca

D’Andre Swift, Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift’s prospects of avoiding formidable competition for touches within Chicago’s backfield rotation had appeared tenuous entering the offseason. However, Swift is primed to operate as the Bears’ lead back after the team failed to make any impactful additions at running back during free agency or the NFL Draft. Chicago made no changes to the backfield during free agency and did not address the position until they selected Kyle Monangai in Round 7 of April’s NFL Draft (233rd overall).

Swift finished fourth among all backs in offensive snaps (703) during 2024, and was 10th with a career high 253 attempts (14.9 per game). He also accumulated a career best 632 yards after contact, and finished 18th in rushing yards (959/56.4 per game). Swift registered a career-low 3.8 yards per attempt, and was 47th in rush yards over expected per attempt (-0.69) according to NextGenStats, but he was also fifth in routes run (351), and 14th in targets (52/3.1 per game), and receptions (42/2.5 per game).

Swift’s lead back role should be preserved, as he is cemented atop a depth chart that contains Roschon Johnson and Monangai. The Bears’ offense should perform more proficiently under Ben Johnson, while Swift will benefit from offseason improvements to the offensive line. Those factors should propel Swift to production that surpasses the expectations of his ADPs in best ball leagues (87/RB30) and dynasty startup drafts (103/RB32).

–Phil Clark

Download Our Free News & Alerts Mobile App

Like what you see?
