The Los Angeles Rams<\/a> kept quarterback Matthew Stafford on their team for 2025, agreeing to a new contract with the veteran. Aaron Rodgers signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.<\/p>\n

However, for just a little it, there was a shot that Rodgers could have ended up in the NFC West, where the Arizona Cardinals<\/a> would have to face him twice.<\/p>\n

Rams head coach Sean McVay told NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt this past week during OTAs that pursuing Rodgers was “a possibility.”<\/a><\/p>\n

A report came up in the offseason about Rodgers’ possible interest in playing for the Rams.<\/p>\n

The thought of Rodgers was a sort of contingency plan had they not been able to re-sign Stafford.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur first priority, which was consistently communicated, was, \u2018Hey, let\u2019s work out something with Matthew,\u2019 and we were very fortunate that it worked out that way,\u201d McVay said. \u201cIf that wasn\u2019t able to occur, then that [Rodgers] was definitely \u2014 conversations and a possibility for us.”<\/p>\n

Could you have imagined how much more interesting the NFC West would have become? The distraction would not be an issue for the Cardinals, and it would have meant Rodgers returns to State Farm Stadium, where he has not fared well.<\/p>\n

Instead, Stafford returns and Rodgers is in Pittsburgh. The Cardinals won’t face him and will have to find a way to get the best of Stafford, who is 9-2-1 in his last 12 appearances against them, including in the postseason.<\/p>\n
