The prank calls during the 2025 NFL Draft<\/a> started early.<\/p>\n

Abdul Carter, considered by some to be the best player in the draft, was also a victim of a phony phone call before the Giants selected the Penn State edge rusher at No. 3 overall.<\/p>\n

Someone pretending to be from the Jaguars called to say they were picking him at No. 2 after Jacksonville acquired the pick from the Cleveland Browns, ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter reported<\/a> Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Jaguars selected two-way standout Travis Hunter, a Colorado teammate of Shedeur Sanders, who was also the victim of a prank call during the draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate that these private numbers are getting to the people making the prank calls,\u201d Carter\u2019s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Schefter. \u201cAbdul and I knew it was bs and didn\u2019t even tell his family about the call.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear who was behind the prank call to Carter.<\/p>\n

Former Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich\u2019s son, Jax, pranked called Sanders during Day 2 of the draft <\/a>Friday. The Falcons, for whom Ulbrich is now the defensive coordinator, said that Jax got Sanders\u2019 number off an open iPad while visiting his parents\u2019 house.<\/p>\n

The prank on Sanders seemed especially cruel as pundits and fans couldn\u2019t stop talking about how the quarterback was slipping in the draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Friday night I made a tremendous mistake,\u201d Jax said in a statement. \u201c[Shedeur] what | did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful. I\u2019m so sorry | took away from your moment, it was selfish and childish. I could never imagine getting ready to celebrate one of the greatest moments of your life and I made a terrible mistake and messed with that moment. Thank you for accepting my call earlier today, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The NFL on Wednesday fined the Falcons $250,000 and Ulbrich $100,000<\/a> in the wake of the ordeal.<\/p>\n

The league is investigating other prank calls, Schefter reported Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Carter\u2019s college teammate, tight end Tyler Warren, was also reportedly prank-called before he was taken at No. 14 by the Colts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The prank calls during the 2025 NFL Draft started early.
