D.C. Council members are \u201cworking toward approving a football stadium\u201d for the Commanders at the shuttered RFK Stadium site<\/a>, but \u201cprobably not by\u201d D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser\u2019s July deadline, according to Jenny Gathright of the WASHINGTON POST. The Commanders last week said that any delay beyond the deadline \u201cthreatens the team\u2019s construction timeline.\u201d But council members argued that it was \u201conly fair that they take more time to consider a deal\u201d that involves more than $1B in taxpayer funds — since they \u201cstill lacked key information, such as a full explanation of the Bowser administration\u2019s revenue projections for the project and an analysis of how much the proposed tax exemptions for the Commanders will cost the city.\u201d Gathright noted council members have \u201cfloated possible changes to the deal — including altering the placement and amount of parking, asking the Commanders to pay more than the proposed $1 per year in rent on the stadium and parking land, and exacting firmer labor commitments from the team\u201d (WASHINGTON POST, 6\/14<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"D.C.
