Pat McAfee<\/a> wants the Indianapolis Colts to take a chance on Arkansas Razorbacks<\/a> pitcher Gage Wood <\/a>after his College World Series performance. On X\/Twitter, the former Colts punter asked the team to sign Wood to the roster. <\/p>\n

\u201cGage Wood is an absolute monster [on] the mound,\u201d Pat McAfee wrote<\/a>. \u201c[Colts], sign this guy. He can do something.\u201d<\/p>\n

McAfee was saying that because he was blown away by Wood throwing a no-hitter against Murray State<\/a> on Monday afternoon. It was the first time in 65 years a no-hitter was thrown in the College World Series game, and Wood struck out 19 batters in the process. <\/p>\n

Wood came close to having a perfect game, but that ended in the eighth inning when he hit a batter. \u201cWhen I hit the guy in the foot, I knew I screwed up,\u201d Wood said after the game, per ESPN<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pat McAfee says Colts QB Anthony Richardson should request a trade<\/p>\n

If the Colts signed Gage Wood, it\u2019s likely he would be in the quarterback room. The team is hoping that Anthony Richardson<\/a> can be a franchise QB, but injuries and inconsistent play have slowed down his process. Richardson missed the majority of the 2023 season due to a shoulder injury. In 2024, the former Florida Gators<\/a> quarterback dealt with an oblique injury and was benched for Joe Flacco.<\/a> He played in 11 games and completed just 47.7 percent of his passes and threw eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions.<\/p>\n

This offseason, Richardson missed mandatory minicamp because of a shoulder injury. In March, Pat McAfee said Richardson should request a trade. \u201cHe should! Yeah, absolutely. Fresh start! New building! Massive upside,\u201d\u00a0McAfee said on his show, per Sports Illustrated. <\/a>\u201cI think if you\u2019re one of the other 31 teams, remember what you thought about Anthony Richardson. A lot of upside. Guy\u2019s got a ton of potential\u2026 maybe he does ask for a trade. Maybe a fresh new start somewhere else is what Anthony Richardson needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf that\u2019s the case, if he does look to go somewhere else, we will appreciate the hell out of his time in this city. And we will be thankful that we were able to be like grade school for him to learn how to play football and be a football player and be a professional and everything like that.
