While trying to highlight only offseason standouts, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Chargers;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Chargers<\/a> coach instead used a winding answer to mention 12 different players.<\/p>\n<p>That type of depth is by design.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe competitive waters are so heated,\u201d Harbaugh said as the Chargers finished minicamp last week. \u201cAs it stands now, to get to 53, there would be some really good players that would have to not be on the 53. \u2026 It\u2019s in a really good place right now because so many have been added or trained themselves to be in ascending place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After three phases of organized team activities and a mandatory minicamp that saw nearly perfect attendance minus minor injuries or illnesses, the Chargers enter their summer break with confidence. Bringing in second-round draft pick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2025-04-25\/chargers-draft-tre-harris-mississippi-wide-receiver\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Tre\u2019 Harris;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Tre\u2019 Harris<\/a>, fifth-rounder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2025-04-26\/chargers-draft-kyle-kennard-fourth-round\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:KeAndre Lambert-Smith;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">KeAndre Lambert-Smith<\/a> and free agent Mike Williams show a clear intention to add a significant vertical threat to an offense that generated the fewest passing yards of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2025-06-11\/los-angeles-chargers-minicamp-justin-herbert-focusing-on-future\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Justin Herbert\u2019;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Justin Herbert\u2019<\/a>s NFL career.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re certainly not going to be just bombs away every play,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2024-04-08\/jim-harbaugh-wants-to-relive-the-rockford-files\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:offensive coordinator Greg Roman;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">offensive coordinator Greg Roman<\/a> said, \u201cbut it\u2019s going to allow us to attack down the field more, or at least present the opportunity to. We\u2019ll hopefully have that aspect to our offense, as well our ground-and-pound mentality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harris, who averaged 17.7 yards per catch and 100.8 yards receiving per game in two years at Mississippi, earned more reps with the No. 1 offense as minicamp progressed, trading positions with Jalen Reagor while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2024-11-01\/chargers-ladd-mcconkey-rookie-receiver\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Ladd McConkey;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Ladd McConkey<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2024-06-04\/chargers-final-ota-access\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Quentin Johnston;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Quentin Johnston<\/a> remained the top two options.<\/p>\n<p>Lambert-Smith was the only player in Penn State history with multiple 80-yard receptions and ranked eighth nationally with 19.62 yards per catch last year for Auburn. He was sidelined for the end of the offseason program with an undisclosed injury. Several could carve out immediate roles.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Harbaugh considers first-round pick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2025-04-24\/chargers-draft-round-1-omarion-hampton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Omarion Hampton;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Omarion Hampton<\/a> and veteran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2025-03-10\/running-back-najee-harris-agrees-deal-chargers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Najee Harris;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Najee Harris<\/a> both starting-caliber running backs. The coach said he has to kick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2025-04-27\/chargers-nfl-draft-areas-concern\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Oronde Gadsden;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Oronde Gadsden<\/a> off the field after practices to keep the rookie tight end from overexertion.<\/p>\n<p>Gadsden became a minicamp star as he turned into one of the busiest receivers during team and seven-on-seven periods. Syracuse\u2019s leader in receiving yards and catches by a tight end lived up to the hype in the pass game and impressed coaches with his willingness in the blocking game while arriving to the facility at 5:30 a.m. almost every day.<\/p>\n<p>Hours before players are required to be in the building, Gadsden walked through plays on the field by himself every morning, saying the play calls aloud to familiarize himself with the playbook. The four defensive backs started 47 games last season, a significant step up in experience after the Chargers relied on a combination of rookies and practice squad callups to overcome a rash of injuries.<\/p>\n<p>While only entering his second season, Still has become a key leader for the defense.
