This week, the Kansas City Chiefs reconvened for mandatory minicamp, and star tight end Travis Kelce is still thinking about the end of the 2024 NFL season as he prepares for 2025.<\/p>\n

Following a 15-win regular season and a triumph in their seventh consecutive AFC Championship Game appearance, the Chiefs got blown out<\/a> by the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX.<\/p>\n

Kelce finished the game with\u00a0four catches for 39 yards, recording zero catches in the first half. It was the worst statistical output of the five Super Bowls he has played, which\u00a0include wins in Super Bowl LIV,\u00a0Super Bowl LVII and\u00a0Super Bowl LVIII.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Kelce admitted that his performance in the big game signified a larger failure for the team he has to address.<\/p>\n

The 10-time Pro Bowl selection spoke about the need to be a better leader for Kansas City’s younger players heading into 2025. He focused on the Super Bowl loss as a prime example.<\/p>\n

“Last year, I think I failed,” Kelce told reporters<\/a> at Chiefs minicamp. “Especially in that last game in being a leader and being the one that can step up and make plays.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked a follow-up question, Kelce discussed his failures in keen detail.<\/p>\n

“I didn\u2019t make the plays I thought I should have made,” said Kelce. “I didn\u2019t get open in certain situations. Blocking the right guys. Having my attention to detail. Motivating my guys to get the energy and the focus and the confidence that we needed during that game. In that area, I just felt like I failed my guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the 2024 regular season, the Chiefs’ 15 wins helped to overshadow the worst season for Kelce since his rookie year in terms of receiving yards (823), yards per catch (8.5) and touchdowns (3).<\/p>\n

Entering his 13th NFL season, Kelce is motivated to make up for his perceived failures, but he will only measure improvement by one metric.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m only interested in Super Bowl rings,” Kelce said. “The 15 wins and everything is something special that I let everybody else be happy with. Last year wasn\u2019t a success for me, and I\u2019m motivated to make sure we get that other ring this year.”<\/p>\n
