The Las Vegas Raiders entered the offseason in search of a new quarterback \u2014 a venture that minority owner Tom Brady had a heavy hand in.<\/p>\n

One of the top names available this winter was Sam Darnold<\/a>, but according to Mike Silver of The Athletic<\/a>, Brady wasn\u2019t interested in pursuing the 28-year-old.<\/p>\n

Some believed that the Raiders would make a try for Darnold, but Silver reports that Brady “was not in favor of that approach.”<\/p>\n

The Raiders instead traded for Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Darnold ended up signing a three-year, $100.5 million contract with Seattle in March. In 2024, he led the Vikings to a 14-3 record, throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Last season was a career-changer for the quarterback. The Jets<\/a> failed to develop a young Darnold after drafting him No. 3 overall in 2018. Being picked by the Jets turned out to be one of the worst things to happen to the quarterback in his career \u2014 the other being his eventual trade to the Panthers in 2021. <\/p>\n

He spent 2023 as a backup in San Francisco, and last offseason signed a one-year deal with the Vikings. He got the starting job after Minnesota\u2019s 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy went down with an injury that summer.<\/p>\n
