The Washington Commanders<\/a> were aggressive this season in building a better roster around quarterback Jayden Daniels. However, it appears the ongoing situation with wide receiver Terry McLaurin is turning from a non-story into a concern.<\/p>\n

Appearing on 106.7 The Fan<\/a>, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated<\/a> shared that McLaurin and the Commanders\u2019 organization don\u2019t seem to be in a good place right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s in a great place right now. If you\u2019re Terry McLaurin, you look at it and you\u2019re saying don\u2019t even come to me with anything that doesn\u2019t start with a three [30] per year. I think it\u2019s fair for him to ask for something in that range just based on where the market has gone. I think they will eventually get something done.\u201d<\/p>\n

McLaurin is in the last year of his deal and seeking a new contract that makes him one of the highest-paid NFL players<\/a> at his position. Already well-regarded as a veteran in the locker room, he also proved to be an outstanding No. 1 receiver for Daniels last season.<\/p>\n

A $30 million AAV would also fall right in line with contracts signed by Amon-Ra St. Brown, Tyreek Hill and Brandon Aiyuk. Plus, with the NFL salary cap increasing by tens of millions of dollars each season, the salary cap percentage of a $30 million AAV would be significantly lower in a few years.<\/p>\n

Originally, many around the league expected the two sides would resolve this contract dispute this summer. However, based on where things stand now, there seems to be a real possibility of McLaurin doing a hold-in during training camp.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s still no reason to believe that McLaurin\u2019s future with the team is in any jeopardy. He\u2019s proven to be a franchise cornerstone, showcasing great rapport with Daniels and he\u2019s a favorite in the community. So, while the situation isn\u2019t in a good place right now, an extension still seems likely.<\/p>\n
