Harbaugh and Greg Roman recaptured the magic of Herbert’s abilities in their first year on the job. Herbert set career highs last season with a 90.2 PFF passing grade, 7.7 yards per attempt and a 5.7% big-time throw rate. Also on the list of accomplishments for Harbaugh is leading a previously porous defense to the third-best PFF grade in the NFL in 2024. All Jim Harbaugh knows is success, and he’s carried that tradition with him to Los Angeles.

Harbaugh is one of the most accomplished head coaches in football, and his track record at both the collegiate and professional levels reflects that.

After finishing as one of the worst teams in 2023, Harbaugh engineered the Chargers to a quick turnaround, as they finished 11-6 and secured a spot in the playoffs. Additionally, he developed a strong culture within the franchise and instilled toughness with his squad on the field.

Harbaugh laid the foundation in 2024, and he should only build upon that, as he brought in the pieces to provide Justin Herbert with the desired help, improve the run game, and sustain the defensive success.

This article originally appeared on Chargers Wire: PFF: Jim Harbaugh’s NFL head coach ranking revealed

Jim Harbaugh was stellar in his first season as the Chargers‘ head coach.
