It has since been updated to refer to him as an Oregon commit, rather than a target.

College football coaches typically care very little about how recruiting services rate certain players; instead, they value their evaluations. But for college football fans who always share the depth of football knowledge that their coaches do, judging prospects based on recruiting rankings is a common practice.

As a result, blue-chip players, including 5-star and 4-star players, are held in higher regard than 3-star players. But when a 3-star player gets a bump and sees his rating rise to the ranks of 4-star, it’s worth noting.

That’s what happened for Oregon Ducks quarterback commit Bryson Beaver, who was bumped up from a 3-star QB to a 4-star QB on Wednesday by 247Sports. Before the Bump, Beaver was rated as the No. 71 passer in the 2026 class. However, he now stands as the No. 17 QB in the class after being re-evaluated and bumped up to a 4-star.

Beaver received a ratings bump from On3 earlier this month, moving up to the No. 19 player in the class.

No matter what the rankings say, the Ducks obviously valued Beaver, and wanted him to be part of their class. He made that commitment official on Wednesday afternoon, becoming the 10th member of the Ducks’ 2026 class following his official visit to Eugene.

Contact/Follow @Ducks_Wire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Oregon Ducks news, notes, and opinions.

Update: This article was originally posted before Bryson Beaver committed to the Oregon Ducks.
