The Massachusetts Pirates have signed former Alabama and Maryland University quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, the younger brother of Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re excited to be adding a player of Taulia\u2019s ability to our quarterback room, depth is especially important at this time of the season, as we make a push towards the playoffs with minimal margin for error,\u201d said Jawad Yatim, the team\u2019s president and general manager.<\/p>\n
Tagovailoa began his collegiate career at Alabama in 2019 and played behind his brother and Mac Jones. In five games as a true freshman, he was 9 of 12 passing for 100 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n
A Hawaii native, Tagovailo transferred to Maryland, where his career took off. He finished his four-career career at Maryland as the Big Ten\u2019s All-Time passing leader with 11,256 yards.<\/p>\n
The 6-foot, 208-pound quarterback\u00a0attended rookie minicamp with the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League last year.<\/p>\n
He spent last season with Hamilton of the Canadian Football League. He was active for eight games, completing one pass for six yards and rushing three times for 10 yards and a score.\u00a0He remained with Hamilton until May.<\/p>\n
