Entering the 2025 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys had a clear need at running back. They let it slide Thursday and Friday before taking Jaydon Blue<\/a> in the fifth round out of Texas<\/a>. A speedster in Steve Sarkisian<\/a>\u2018s offense, Blue joins the Cowboys with a potentially big opportunity ahead.<\/p>\n

Marcus Spears believes Blue can take the opportunity and then some. Spears says Blue could wind up being \u201can unsung guy\u201d for Dallas when we reflect on the upcoming season. Reports on the running back are already positive throughout offseason work as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the Dallas offensive line is going to be one of the more physical and athletic offensive lines when it comes to zone schemes and as far as getting running backs in lanes and allowing them to use speed,\u201d Spears said<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to this rookie maybe shocking a lot of people. A lot of good stuff coming out on him when he was there for rookie minicamp and OTAs. The speed jumps off the page at 4.38. He could be an unsung guy that we could talk about a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

To Spears\u2019 point, offensive line has been a staple of the Cowboys for years now. Jerry Jones and the front office had to rework the group but selecting Tyler Booker<\/a> with the No. 12 overall pick has them feeling like the next great era is set to take off. Last year\u2019s first-rounder, Tyler Guyton<\/a>, is looking for a better sophomore campaign at left tackle, while the 2023 first-round selection, Tyler Smith<\/a>, is already a two-time Pro Bowler. Cooper Beebe (another second-year player) and Terrence Steele round out the group.<\/p>\n

If anything, Blue is going to have a solid five blocking up front for him. Opening up lanes and allowing Blue to get into open space is exactly what is needed. The best example might be his 77-yard touchdown run<\/a> against Clemson<\/a> in the College Football Playoff<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Those types of explosive plays are exactly what the Cowboys were missing a season ago. Outside of CeeDee Lamb<\/a>, there were no real playmakers in the offense \u2014 whether they were dropping back or handing the ball off.<\/p>\n

Blue has a chance to be someone who creates for Dallas in big fashion. Spears is certainly high on the possibility heading into the 2025 season.
