The Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> got some exciting news when four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers made it clear he was going<\/a> to be playing for the team in 2025. While Rodgers has strongly suggested this will likely be his final season in the NFL, his decision to join Pittsburgh has sparked major hype and raised expectations across the league. Not everyone is convinced the move will work, but there is plenty of optimism surrounding what could be a memorable year for the franchise.<\/p>\n

One area of concern, however, is the wide receiver room. The Steelers made a bold move by trading for DK Metcalf<\/a>, giving Rodgers a proven top target. However, that excitement was quickly tempered by the surprising trade of George Pickens, who many believed was just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. With Pickens gone, the Steelers\u2019 receiver depth has become a growing concern heading into the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

Now, reports indicate that Pittsburgh is still actively searching for additional help at the position. CBS Sports<\/a> analyst Cody Benjamin recently highlighted how the Steelers could move quickly to add another weapon for Rodgers, especially with the urgency of making the most out of what might be his final season. The team\u2019s front office appears committed to giving Rodgers every chance to succeed, which could mean another big move is on the way. However, Benjamin believes Omar Khan<\/a> could get a cheap deal done that would help Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

“[Odell] Beckham may not be the standout he once was, but he’s also been on Rodgers’ radar for years; the Green Bay Packers reportedly tried to land Beckham to pair with A-Rod during the 2021 season, and Rodgers admitted later that he had interest in Beckham following him to the Jets ahead of the 2022 campaign,” Benjamin said. “On a one-year deal, why not make the dream pairing happen now?”<\/p>\n

For starters, it\u2019s important to recognize that this once dream pairing for Beckham wouldn\u2019t be the same as when Rodgers actively wanted him on his team. Back then, Beckham still carried more optimism about what he could offer an NFL team. Now, at 32 years old, Beckham hasn\u2019t had a standout NFL season since 2019. Though he was making some highlight plays during the 2023 season.<\/p>\n

In 2024, he played for the Miami Dolphins and appeared in just nine games. His impact was minimal, catching only nine passes for 55 receiving yards. It has been several seasons since Beckham was both healthy and highly productive. Still, Benjamin argues that adding a veteran option like Beckham can\u2019t hurt Pittsburgh as they look to provide Rodgers with more weapons.<\/p>\n

Steelers Feel Confident About Aaron Rodgers’ Weapons<\/p>\n

The Steelers\u2019 wide receiver room has been heavily debated for the past two seasons. The idea of pairing Metcalf with Pickens sounded like it could create one of the most dangerous duos in the league. However, the Steelers broke up that duo<\/a> before they even got a chance to practice together. Trading Pickens away was seen by the Steelers\u2019 brass as addition by subtraction. Now, the team is focused on figuring out how to best support Rodgers in 2025.<\/p>\n

The Steelers know Metcalf will be the star of this offense, and they have faith in young receivers like Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson. They also have a strong veteran presence with Robert Woods, plus tight end Pat Freiermuth, who looks poised for a breakout season playing alongside a future Hall of Fame quarterback.<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see if the Steelers pursue a forgotten star like Beckham or take a different approach to fill out their offensive attack.
