Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> running back A.J. Dillon has become a huge fan of WNBA<\/a> player Sophie Cunningham, it seems. He even recently bragged about picking up her jersey.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not because she\u2019s simply the teammate of Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, but rather, due to Cunningham\u2019s willingness to fiercely defend her teammate during a game.<\/p>\n

Dillon, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, recently spoke to Fox News Digital<\/a> and revealed he was on board with the blonde bombshell \u201clike all the fans who became fans a week ago\u201d when Cunningham took on the role of enforcer for the league\u2019s top star.<\/p>\n

He calls Cunningham his \u201cnew favorite player\u201d after watching her go head-to-head with an opponent who delivered a hard foul on Clark.<\/p>\n

Dillon even bragged on X about buying her jersey.<\/p>\n

Sophie Cunningham\u2019s Play is Inspiring<\/p>\n

Sophie Cunningham appears to have snuck up a bit on basketball fans, but she shouldn\u2019t have. She\u2019s been breaking necks with her pre-game \u201cbombshell\u201d outfits from day one in the league.<\/p>\n

She also forewarned the rest of the league when joining Caitlin Clark and the Fever squad that she intended to protect her teammate.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust to be alongside of her and maybe relieve the pressure, being able to shoot and spread the court for her to go do her thing,\u201d she said at the time<\/a>. \u201cI want her to go do her thing, and anything she needs from me, I\u2019m gonna be here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI stick up for my teammates. I stick up for myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

She got the opportunity to prove herself by\u00a0delivering a retaliatory foul<\/a>\u00a0on Connecticut Sun<\/a> guard Jacy Sheldon, who had poked Clark in the eye, and prompted teammate Marina Mabrey to slam Cunningham\u2019s teammate to the floor. Sophie was ejected from the game.<\/p>\n

Cunningham has since skyrocketed in popularity, recently celebrating a milestone of over 1 million followers<\/a> on TikTok.<\/p>\n

AJ Dillon is Team Sophie<\/p>\n

Sophie Cunningham also skyrocketed in popularity with the Eagles running back, a man with the nickname \u2018Quadzilla.\u2019 While everyone is focused on the star player, Dillion appreciates the grunt work of the team enforcer.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaitlin Clark\u2019s obviously the best player on that team, arguably the best player in the WNBA, if not the best,\u201d he explained to Fox<\/a>. \u201cYou got your star player, they\u2019re drawing a little bit, but think about it like the quarterback. That\u2019s our quarterback, we\u2019re gonna make sure she\u2019s protected.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf somebody pushes\u00a0Jalen Hurts<\/a>, everybody\u2019s gonna be in there. I respected that, being there for the team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dillon says he intends to sport his new Sophie jersey while on a boat on the 4th of July.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a fan, I like that approach to the game, and just being a tough player for the team, not letting anybody push your teammates around, I like that,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
