BYU star QB\u2019s plans uncertain amid acknowledged Honor Code violation, civil lawsuit.<\/p>\n

BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff is anticipating a seven-game suspension for violating the school\u2019s Honor Code<\/a>, multiple sources told The Salt Lake Tribune.<\/p>\n

Facing the prospect of missing more than half the 2025 season, Retzlaff has begun telling his coaches and teammates he is likely to leave the program, a source close to the situation said.<\/p>\n

The sources are not being named because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.<\/p>\n

BYU did not immediately respond Sunday to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

In a civil lawsuit filed in May<\/a>, Retzlaff was accused of sexually assaulting a woman, identified in court documents as Jane Doe A.G., at his Provo home in November 2023.<\/p>\n

Through his attorney, Retzlaff immediately denied the sexual assault allegations. In his legal response filed Friday, he said that he had \u201cconsensual\u201d sex with the woman who has accused him of assaulting her. <\/p>\n

Retzlaff has asked for the case to be dismissed.<\/a> But the filing in Utah\u2019s 3rd District Court would inevitably be considered by officials at BYU. The school is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enforces an Honor Code that sets guidelines that employees and students are expected to follow.<\/p>\n

Among other things, the code prohibits premarital sex and instructs students to \u201clive a chaste and virtuous life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Retzlaff rose to national prominence a year ago as he led the Cougars to an 11-2 record and won the Alamo Bowl <\/a>over nationally ranked Colorado.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BYU star QB\u2019s plans uncertain amid acknowledged Honor Code violation, civil lawsuit.
