The Chicago Bears<\/a> are primed for an offensive breakout this year under first-year head coach Ben Johnson<\/a>, who’s established himself as one of the NFL’s best offensive minds.<\/p>\n

This offseason has been focused on overhauling the offense, and developing second-year quarterback Caleb Williams, including Johnson’s hiring, new additions on the offensive line and even more weapons. While you could argue whether Chicago will be playoff contenders, considering their difficult schedule, the offense should show vast improvement in just Week 1.<\/p>\n

The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen<\/a> dubbed the Bears<\/a> among six offenses ready for a breakout season in 2025. He praised Chicago for the hiring of Johnson as head coach, and offensive play caller, as well as the revamped offensive line featuring arguably the league’s best guard duo<\/a> of Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, as well as center Drew Dalman. It’s why, unlike last year, he expects the hype to come to fruition.<\/p>\n

“The Bears are another team that committed resources to putting together an effective two-tight end duo,” wrote Nguyen. “They drafted Colston Loveland with the 10th pick of the draft and his crafty route running will help him quickly establish a role, allowing Johnson to diversify his personnel usage. The biggest question is at running back. Johnson will want to run the ball, but they\u2019ll likely use a committee, led by D\u2019Andre Swift, who is explosive but inconsistent with his vision.”<\/p>\n

Nguyen also discussed the importance of Williams getting rid of the ball quicker, something Johnson has been on the second-year QB during the offseason. Nguyen noted “how Williams responds to this type of coaching will determine whether the Bears\u2019 offense is ready to break out.”<\/p>\n
