Gone is the imposing 6-foot-4, 229-pound DK Metcalf, who averaged over 1,000 yards per season over his six years in Seattle. Also gone is 32-year-old veteran Tyler Lockett, the second-leading receiver in franchise history.<\/p>\n
Their replacements are headlined by 32-year-old former Los Angeles Rams star Cooper Kupp, who had a historic 1,947-yard campaign in 2021 but has since missed 18 games due to various injuries over the past three seasons. Also new to the fold are veteran speedster Marquez Valdes-Scantling, rookie fifth-round draft pick Tory Horton and rookie seventh-rounder Ricky White III.<\/p>\n
The one big constant is third-year pro Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is coming off a breakout 1,130-yard season. But it remains to be seen if Smith-Njigba can replicate his success without Metcalf, whose massive frame and elite athleticism drew considerable attention from opposing defenses.<\/p>\n
Do the Seahawks have enough at wide receiver in the post-Metcalf\/Lockett era? The Athletic\u2019s Derrik Klassen<\/a>, co-host of The Athletic Football Show, was asked that question Friday during an appearance on Seattle Sports\u2019 Bump and Stacy.<\/p>\n \u201cI think they have a lot of guys who are useful,\u201d Klassen said. \u201cI think we\u2019re never going to get the best out of Cooper Kupp again, but I do think that he can still be a useful player, and he still was last year. Obviously MVS is kind of just a role player as a stretch-down-the-field guy playing outside the numbers. He can kind of eat a lot of the dirty work down-the-field targets, which I think is useful.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd then I do think that Jaxon Smith-Njigba is, not like a true No. 1 receiver in the way that we think of A.J. Brown and Justin Jefferson and players like that, but I do think that he can eat over 110 targets pretty consistently and be a useful player. So I think they have a lot of options.
