Did Shedeur Sanders<\/a> want NFL teams to actually recruit him instead of treating pre-draft visits as a job interview? That\u2019s what one team executive tells The Athletic\u2019s NFL insider Dianna Russini<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI believe Shedeur approached these visits with teams as a recruiting trip versus a job interview,\u201d the executive told Russini, which she revealed on her \u201cScoop City\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n The executive pointed to Sanders\u2019 decision to forgo hiring an agent as a critical mistake that left him unprepared for how NFL teams evaluate quarterback prospects.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Sanders skipped both the Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine, missing key opportunities to showcase his skills to talent evaluators who weren\u2019t as high on him as media outlets suggesting he was the second-best quarterback in the class.<\/p>\n The Colorado<\/a> product ultimately fell to pick No. 144, where the Cleveland Browns<\/a> traded up to select him despite already drafting quarterback Dillon Gabriel<\/a> in the third round. Four other quarterbacks \u2014 Cam Ward<\/a>, Jaxson Dart<\/a>, Tyler Shough<\/a> and Jalen Milroe<\/a> \u2014 were all selected before Sanders.<\/p>\n \u201cScoop City\u201d podcast co-host Chase Daniel attributed Sanders\u2019 draft slide to concerns about intangibles rather than on-field performance.<\/p>\n \u201cIt wasn\u2019t his play on the field because his play on the field, it\u2019s good. It\u2019s not great, but it\u2019s good,\u201d Daniel said. \u201cAnd he didn\u2019t fall in the draft because of his talent. You got to play the game a little bit. Well, Shedeur Sanders and his camp, they did not.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite his draft-day tumble, Sanders could still compete for playing time in Cleveland this season.
