Statistically speaking, Los Angeles Rams<\/a> running back Kyren Williams was a top-10 player in 2024.<\/p>\n

He finished seventh in rushing yards and tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns this past season. Williams’ yards per attempt (4.1) and fumbles (five total) weren’t great, but he produced at a high level for the Rams.<\/p>\n

Those stats weren’t enough for him to crack ESPN’s top-10 list of running backs<\/a>, though. ESPN tallied votes from 70 league executives, coaches and scouts to curate a list of the best players at every position, and Williams finished outside the top 10. Even more, he didn’t even make the “honorable mentions” list.<\/p>\n

While it’s unclear exactly why Williams fell so low on the rankings despite his statistical production, ESPN explained how the rankings were determined: “Voters gave us their 10 best players at a position, then we compiled the results and ranked candidates based on number of top-10 votes, composite average and dozens of interviews, with research and film study help from ESPN NFL analyst Matt Bowen.”<\/p>\n

So, it stands to reason that a combination of Williams’ film as well as his lack of top-10 votes contributed to his position on the board. While some of the voters did rank Williams in the top-10, those were few and far between.<\/p>\n

Other rankings have included Williams in their top-10, though: Pro Football Focus<\/a> had Williams at No. 10 and even ex-Rams running back Todd Gurley blindly ranked Williams No. 5<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 2025 season will be a big one for Williams, as he enters the final year of his deal amid contract negotiations with the Rams. He’ll also have two younger players hot on his tail in Blake Corum and 2025 rookie Jarquez Hunter.<\/p>\n
